On the previous web-site one of the long-time members had posted a picture that showed a really basic & ingenious solution to working on the body and being able to raise and lower it. It consisted of four double posts with adjustable pegs and cross-members. I can't remember exactly how it was configured and I'd like to put one together as I'm at that stage in the build. I'd appreciate it if anyone has that post or picture!

Let me know if these will work for you. The main posts are two 2x4's with 2x4 spacers. The holes are drilled about 4 or 5 inches apart with carriage bolts for pins.   |

Did you anchor the legs to the concrete or just attach them to the rafters at the top?

I set my posts square and plumb (using a level) on the ground, then clamped them to the rafters and drilled them and lag bolted using two staggered lag bolts. after you get the body on that contraption believe me you don't need to fasten the uprights to the floor. I used 2" x 6" for the cross bars and the only other thing to remember is to space them wide enough so the rolling chassis can fit easily between giving enough room to do assembly. I can pretty much raise and lower the body with just my wife as an assistant (she raises the bar and and pins it while I lift).
Kudos to Brian Boggs for coming up with one of the greatest solutions in Bradley building!!!!

I'm just now checking back for your reply but I was working on a stand today. I have the front done and supported although I ran a 2x4 across instead of a 2x6. I figured if it is light enough for me to lift then the 2x6 was probably adequate? I'll have to do a little more thinking on the rear since my garage has a loft that doesn't extend over the rear. I may end up running a board from the front to rear posts on both sides at ground level and at the rafter level so the rear is free standing.
I can lift one front corner with one hand to move the post up a notch while putting in the bolt with the other hand. Not sure if I'll be able to do that on the rear...my back is hurting from lifting it while my wife set jackstands/boards under it to hold it for now.

wow, nothin better than a great idea..... except for an improvement on a great idea.
hinging the unit, love that part... converts to storage space, then back when you need it.....
i just know wyn is going to make a motorized version of this thing yet!!

Big Bob, I’m just going to stick with my 2” web belt to hold my twoie. I can easily lift or lower and rotate it without much trouble all by myself. I just want to get my Twoie finished. I got too many health problem to work with. I now have some miner skin cancer problems. As for my Brad, I picked up a AC compressor off of a 97 KIA Sophia, to hold the compressor I am working on a cradle to mount on the fan assembly of the type three engine. I need to get new hoses for the whole AC system. From the pics it looks like Minax has a good bit of his Twoie done, how about some pics of what you have done with it. I added an another karma on your stand, great ideal.  Wyn |

I still have to finish up the lights and wiring. The chassis is finished and I have the rear carpet in. The seat covers and interior parts ar mostly don. I still need to do the head liner . It does run, drive and stop in the condition it's in now. Almost everything else is cosmetic. gotta get the roof installed and realigned and also the doors. I got good tops from Bob Evans and some of the interior trim, I still nee the fiberglass piece that covers the left(?) windshield strut, some body fiber glassing and paint. (new tires wouldn't go amiss) Mostly it's a lack of time and money for supplies. My job keeps me pretty busy at the moment and I haven't got the extra cash to put into it yet.. hopefully this spring after I finish up the boat I will have more time to work on it. Oh and I still want Brian's Boat (the Surfer) bradleygt.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=80This is still the most up to date thread I had on the car. |
