I am new to the board but not new to air cooled vw's. Just got my bradley body, pre wired. it looks like its never been installed but is in awesome shape! The only thing thats keeping the project from progressing is the brackets for the body. I figured out the obvious ones like the seat rails and the bumper mounts but there are more than a few i cant seem to deal with. Can i just mount the body rail to rail with the chassis or should i use the brackets. its really cool that people like us are willing to do the work and keep projects like these alive. vw anything is worth keeping around especially kit cars like these. Thanks

What brackets are you referring to?

there are two bigger brackets they kinda look like shovels with holes in them. also a few square brackets with a bend like an angle iron at one end. There is also a square based pipe with feathering cut into it. any idea?

Hi leslamcke, Welcome to the club! ;D Sorry, but I'm having trouble visualizing the brackets you're describing. Do you have a GT or a GT II? If you don't have a build manual, you would be well advised to get Jeff Troy's CD's. He has a CD for the GT as well as one for the GT II. Check out this thread. bradleygt.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=137Gary Hammond,

Welcome to 'Raiders of the Lost Car Artifacts...' - just attach some photos of the parts in question, and we'll tell you what they are, or at least guess -

Sounds like the shovel like brackets are probably the mounting brackets for the front bumper..also the flat brackets with the "angle iron" are the bracket that fit inside the bumper itself to mount to the "shovel brackets"..The others, I would have to see to venture a guess.... bobevans

There are no brackets that hold the body to the chassis. It mounts directly where a bug body would mount. There are two pipes that hold the front end up that the front bumpers mount to.

My cars also had some flat strap brackets that connected from the front bottom lip of the body (under the bumper) & then ran back to the gas tank straps & front beam. These appear to have been added to strengthen the lower portion of the front bodywork & reduce warping of the fiberglass when the car was driven at Mach 2...

Tops are bumper brackets. Bottom is for the gas tank I believe. The two holes on the tabs go over the holes on the top of the beam. I think the middles are the seat mounts. Not sure about the small rectangular one towards the top.

I believe that small rectangular plate (located between front bumper brackets in picture) is the access plate for the door striker nuts... see if you have a plate under each side of the body at the latch strikers - this lets you get to the fasteners. And bottom bracket is for gas tank -

It does bolt directly to the chassis, but make sure you place the rubber molding between the body and chassis before bolting it into place..otherwise it will squeak you to death going down the road.... ;D

The two large brackets are the Body, Tank and Bumper mounts. There should be two U channels that match the back side of these mounts so it will bolt around the front suspension assembly. The small rectangle plate between then is a doubler plate for the rear bumper mounts, it mounts on the engine side of the engine compartment wall. Iām not sure it that is for the GTE rear bumper, as mine rear bumper mount has 6 holes I will need to look at the other hardware I have to be sure. The two engine compartment walls of the GTE are shorter than the GT-II so there are a drop down bracket to mount the Rear bumper mount. The 7 brackets are for the seat mounts there should be 8. I only used 4 and made a one peace mount for the out side of the seats. The lower bracket is the upper Tank support the two offset points will slip over the two short bolt holes on the top torsion bar assembly on the front suspension. There should be another support for the tank bottom, it is made from a 1ā angle with two short 1ā bars welded on the ends. It will bolt to the three holes in the bottom half of the Body, Tank, Bumper mounts. Wyn

leslamcke On the GTE the two support walls in the back are shorter and wider than the GT-II and requires a bracket to drop down to hold the rear bumper mount. The wall are shorter in length to allow the rear tail light to be installed. Wyn
