Thanks guys.
Cobalt blue metallic. for some reason I always seem to stay with a similiar color that the projects are "born" with.

Sweet! I like the cobalt blue. I once painted a sportbike I owned Cobalt blue/ford chrome yellow. Jon

I'm jealous. Always wanted a Deserter. Quit teasing show some sunlight on it, at least the hood. Going to look great.

Sunlight is tough to find! Its too late in the day when I get home from work, and we have basketball tournaments for the next 10 weekends.
I do have to move some parts into the shed so I can start painting some of the smaller chassis parts so maybe when I do that I will. Its getting awfully crowded in my two bay shop

Front beam and rear control arms are painted. I just need to clearcoat them.
Tranny is cleaned and ready for primer/paint.
Drivers side floorpan is cut and fitted. d**n that aluminum is tough to cut!

days and days have been spent at the sandblasting cabinet and the wire wheel. Cleaning old paint and rust off of backing plates, brake drums & suspension pieces.
I have all the blue painted I think. The tranny, tunnel, shocks, steering box & bracket and pushrod tubes are all body color.
The backing plates, control arms, master cylinder and axles are silver. Drums, misc hardware, CVV joint retaining plates, and steering knuckles are black.
I just need to throw some clear on everything before I can start re-assembling everything.

Those Deserter GT buggies, are much sought after. With the work you are doing with yours, you will get good value for it. After you have fun driving & showing it. Good work & those colors are great. Not many peeps using metallic paints these days, nice to see.

Yup....getting very close to assembly time.
Of course the old one two punch of the flu and poison ivy doesn't help. Can't see me clearcoating with all the VOCs with open ozzing sores on my arms!
d**n it!

I got the flu right now and wish I had a booth full of VOC's and Isocyanates to clear my head.

I feel your pain Dan. Last weekend my head felt like it was in a vice, couldn't stop coughing, stuff dripping down the back of my throat. It sucked!
It cleared on Tuesday and I have sprung back pretty quickly. Now just to get through the steroids for my poison ivy (they keep me awake at night) and I will be back at it this weekend hopefully.

Pan is just about done. I have all the brake lines bent, primed, painted & cleared. I still need to clear one front and one rear backing plate, a spindle, and some misc hardware so I can get the rest of the brakes re-assembled. I installed the ebrake handle as well.
The pan is about ready to come off the rottisserre so I can get the front beam and tranny installed.
I have mounted the front Mustang turn signals and have laid out the rear lights. I still need to get filthy and apply the Herculiner to the body. I am NOT looking forward to that!

Rolling Herculiner over your head really sucks. Another set of clothes in the trash.
Its done though. And I just picked up a like new Lecarra steering wheel for $30 shipped. It should bolt up to my chrome tilt column perfectly.
Tonight should be some headlight and tail light mounting and if my son is around I might get the pan off the rotisserre. If not then I will shoot some clear on the brake parts.

Some general clean up tonight and maybe some motor work as well. I need to epoxy some wire tie pads to the underside of the body as well so I can start the wiring.

Darn, you do nice work. I just have to ask, how many hours did it take? and approx cost?

Good question...I don't track it but I usually try to get 3 hours in when I do work. I take weeks and weeks off usually. if I had to guess I would maybe say 100 hours so far? Every painted piece you see is cleaned, primed, painted, and cleared. Every bolt is cleaned, inspected, primed, painted and cleared. There is alot of time in front of my grinder with a wire wheel attachment cleaning parts.
For cost, I do maintain a spreadsheet because that is what I base the sale price on. I need to add it up but I think I have about $4500 into it, including the original price of the buggy. There are some things that are on the spreadsheet that I have to remove though. I have 3 sets of seats that are all on there but I will only keep one. I have 3 sets of rims/tires so 2 sets will need to be removed. I have 2 sets of gauges so 1 has to go.
At the end of the day I think I might have $5000 into it. I buy alot of stuff off Craigslist and Ebay. For example the wiring harness I am going to put in costs $225 including shipping. I got it for $75 (new) on Craigslist. The Lecarra steering wheel I just picked up lists for $145 and I got it for $30. The chrome tilt column I got off ebay for $200. I pick up stuff whenever I see a good deal. If I don't use it on this project I will use it on my Manx SR which is next.

Body wirng is now done. I just need to get the tank installed so I can install the hood and start wiring the gauges and such.
Motor has the heads back on, new pushrod tubes, and fresh paint. I adjusted the valves and installed the clutch. Now waiting to get some valve covers on so I can re-intall the motor.
I still need to rebuild the carbs, get the hood installed, finish the wiring, intall the tilt column, and install the windshield before I can get the body back onto the pan.

Some updated pics. I have the front lights and the rear lights all wired. Any wires to the front and rear are run. Here are the rims/tires I will be using. Any gold highlights will be re-painted the blue that the body is. Here is the hood fastened back to the body: And the gas tank before the hood was put on: And lastly a couple of pics of the tilt column:
