Well after a year in Iraq, im back. Bad news for the Bradley it sat for a year. I started back in on the work ahead. Before i left it was mechanicly sound now not so much. I got it started but wow does it back fire. I used see foam and it made a great change in the way it ran. I did a good tune up and i adjusted the valves but number 1 and 2 cylinders still back fire bad. I do have dual carbs but im not sure how to clean them it ran great when i left. Any ideas on what to do. It did sit in my garage but i still had to clean tons of grounds to get all the light, blinkers etc... working. Just need help on backfire. One last thought how do you stop the exhaust leak where the j pipe hooks into the exhaust.

Gunny...Welcome back...and THANK YOU! Is it backfiring through the exhaust or carbs?
Through the exhaust is usually due to an exhaust leak....and it sounds like you have one. Those leaks usually seal up on their own with carbon after a while of driving. if not, they do make exhaust sealant you can apply. Simply dis-assemble the exhaust, coat the j-tube and re-assemble.

Hi, Gunny,
If I ever wanted anyone at my back, it would be a Marine. Thank you for your dedication, professionalism and service.
The only backfiring I've ever had has been in the exhaust system, either loose bolts in the connections or a stripped out stud in the head.
Welcome home, and warmest regards,

Here's a Karma for all you do. Are you posted on the left or right coast? Ever get around Lejeune or Cherry Point? Happy homecoming!

I live about 50 miles away from you in Smyrna (15 miles east of Beaufort on US 70). My Mother-in-law lives in J'ville off of Pony Farm Rd. I have a parts car so if you need anything, want to compare notes, or just chill and chat give me a holler. I'm a least a month away from having my car on the road.

Welcome back Gunny! And THANK-YOU for your duty to the country!
I'm in Raleigh & hit LeJeune area on occasion to catch up with a buddy & pick up mil truck/trailer parts for my M37 Dodge -
My vote is that you've got varnished carb issues -
