Hi Dave, Here's a picture of mine. I moved it and the e-brake about 13" rearward. Had to air chisel the spot welds holding both the shifter and e-brake to the tunnel and then re-weld them where I wanted them. Had to shorten the shift tube and e-brake cables. Eliminated the heater controls and installed new push/pull cables to the dash for heater and front air vents. Then I shortened the shifter lever to about 6" in length. The console below the dash joins the tunnel right where the shifter used to be mounted. Gary Hammond, P.S. Wouldn't let me add the image, so here's a link to it. Relocated Shifter

The first page of this very long post hs some pics of what I did. You essentially cut a shifter section out and then an equal size chunk behind them and swap them. Then you do the same for the ebrake mount. Cut loose the ebrake and vent line tubes back at the tranny mounts so when you slide the ebrake section back the tubes just slide out of the rear forks and you can cut them to length. www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=295854&highlight=avenger
